Schaduf was founded by two brothers, Sherif and Tarek Hosny, after volunteering on a farm in Louisiana in December 2010. They have always been interested in plants and their curiosity about nature led them to trips to Ethiopia and Rwanda. Noticing the huge impact the river Nile has on both those two countries they quickly realized that Egypt and the Middle East's future will rest on their ability to preserve water and other natural resources.
The journey started with aquaponics, but they soon developed a product that is more suited to roofs and small areas. What started with a small scale rooftop farming endeavor has now evolved into a major technology hub with innovations in farming, irrigation, and a variety of sustainability products and services across the region.
